With experience, comes truth, strength and grace… passion found not just in the chase, but in the hard-wrought wisdom of roads well-travelled and lessons learned along the way. So it is with the music of the Rivergods… an original roots-rock, Americana-tinged outfit born in 1997, who continue to enjoy critical acclaim and a loyal fan base around southern New England. From harmony-rich folk to dirge country to swamp blues to jangly pop, the Rivergods draw influence far and wide from a vast American musical landscape.
The Rivergods have several CDs out; their lastest, Signs, was released in April 2011. The New Haven Advocate called Signs “a perfect example of (the Rivergods’) eclecticism: country, gospel, pop and funky backbeats mix seamlessly.” In May 2011, the Rivergods were named ‘Artist of the Month’ by the popular roots/folk website FolkAlley.com. Also in 2011, the Rivergods won a New London Whalie award for ‘Best Americana’ band. Their last full-length studio CD Time Has Come was hailed as “simply excellent” by Soundcheck Magazine and produced an award-winning single, “Buddha on the Road,” which won the Independent Artist Community’s Best Americana song award in 2007.
The Rivergods have played countless shows and festivals over the years, including the NEMO New Music Showcase in Boston, NXNE in Toronto, CA, Sailfest and Opsail in New London, CT, the Meriden Daffodil Festival, and in June of 2011, they performed at Summer Pops in Westerly, RI to over 15,000 people. They have been profiled by No Depression (the quote “bible of alternative country”), Connecticut Magazine, and many newspapers and arts weeklies.
